Marnie, who identifies as nonbinary and goes by gender neutral pronouns, created their first LGBTQ training as a Peace Corps Volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa. Marnie then worked for the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center, where they organized and canvassed for gay marriage.
After coming out as nonbinary at Columbia Business School, Marnie realized that their peers were a bit confused and had a lot of questions. Marnie created a Transgender 101 training, which now occurs annually at Columbia Business School. Marnie also worked with the school to get a gender neutral bathroom created and add an option other than male and female into the admissions application. After graduating with an MBA in Operations, Marnie began working at Google. While at Google, Marnie mentioned the need for trans education at Google to their colleague, Kevin Perry, who launched an LGBTQ Ally Program for Bank of America. Drawing on their previous training experience, Kevin and Marnie created Transgender @ Google, a training that has now been given at Google offices around the world and to over 5,000 Google employees. Marnie helped develop more allyship content including Building a Better Google, which was incorporated into the company-wide new employee orientation program, Muslims @ Google, Disability @ Google, Black @ Google, and Facilitating for Inclusion.
Marnie now works as a Diversity Manager on the Stay & Thrive Team, where they work one-to-one with underrepresented Google employees to help them thrive at Google. This often means serving as a mentor or coach, connecting clients to other support options, or locating internal mobility opportunities. Read more about Marnie’s team here.
In 2019, Marnie & their wife Rebecca had their first child, Brooklyn, and in 2021, they had a second child, Drew. Marnie carried both children and goes by Baba. Marnie & Rebecca also have two dogs, Cooper & Max. Cooper, a black lab, and Marnie have a special bond.
